U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee and a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the City of Follansbee, W.Va.

This award, secured through a Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) request made solely by Ranking Member Capito in Fiscal Year 2022 (FY22), will provide the City of Follansbee with funds to upgrade its wastewater system.

“I was proud to use my position on the EPW and Appropriations Committees to advocate for and secure this award to support Follansbee in its mission to improve its wastewater system,” Ranking Member Capito said. “This funding, at the request of the city, will help modernize their water infrastructure in a way that will allow it to be more efficient, meet modern sanitation standards, and better serve its residents in the Northern Panhandle.”

The award details are as follows:

$10,269,000 EPA CDS award to the City of Follansbee, W.Va., to upgrade Follansbee's water treatment plant and separate storm and sanitary sewer lines as intended with Follansbee's long-term control plan. This project will also provide the city with the treatment and reserve capacity to keep it within the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection permits for sewage treatment.
