U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) participated in a naturalization ceremony held in Charleston, West Virginia. The event took place on September 27, 2024, where Capito delivered remarks to 55 new U.S. citizens and their families. The ceremony also featured Frank Volk, Chief Judge for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia.

Senator Capito addressed the new citizens who hailed from 34 different countries, stating: “From India to Brazil to the United Kingdom and elsewhere, you have come from nearly every corner of the world, united in the shared belief that in the United States your future can be anything you want it to be.” She expressed gratitude for their sacrifices and commitment to becoming American citizens.

Capito added: “I want to thank you and your families for all the sacrifices, courage, patience, persistence, and commitment to this process. It’s both a testament to the promise of our great nation, and also to your character, in committing to America and its laws. You earned it, and I am honored to help officially welcome you, my fellow citizens, to the United States.”

The event was attended by various officials including members of the American Legion.
