Rep. Alex Mooney, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing West Virginia’s 2nd district, has recently shared his views on several issues through social media posts. Born in Washington, D.C., and a Dartmouth College graduate, Mooney replaced Shelley Moore Capito in 2015 and previously served in the Maryland Senate.

On November 19, 2024, Rep. Alex Mooney expressed concerns regarding national security and civil liberties by stating that "Catholics who preferred the Latin mass were a national security threat that required surveillance." He also highlighted issues faced by parents attending school board meetings being labeled as domestic terrorists.

Later on the same day, Rep. Mooney addressed environmental regulations imposed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), arguing that "The EPA’s proposed pollution rules unfairly target coal-fired power plants." He emphasized support for pro-coal and pro-gas policies championed by Lee Zeldin.

In another post dated November 19, 2024, Rep. Mooney focused on tax policy for small business owners. He stated that "As part of the TCJA, small business owners were allowed to deduct up to 20% of their income." This deduction is set to expire at the end of 2025 unless made permanent by legislation such as Rep. Smucker's Main Street Tax Certainty Act.
