U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito has announced a new grant from the U.S. Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration for West Virginia. The funding is designated for the West Virginia Office of Miners Health Safety and Training to enhance safety and health programs aimed at reducing mining-related accidents, injuries, and illnesses.

Senator Capito emphasized the importance of supporting miners in her statement: “For generations, West Virginia coal miners have helped keep the lights on in our state and across the entire nation. That’s why it’s critical that we repay them by being there for them and providing the services and support they are due."

The grant amounts to $524,103 and will be used to provide federally mandated education and training for miners working in various mining operations including surface, underground coal, metal mines, as well as shell dredging or surface stone, sand, and gravel-mining operations.
