Nitro High School students and staff gathered in the gymnasium on Tuesday morning, expecting an assembly with West Virginia State Superintendent Michele Blatt. During the event, it was revealed that a member of their staff had been named a 2024-2025 Milken Award Winner.

The Milken Family Foundation annually recognizes a select group of teachers nationwide for their exceptional contributions. This year, Mr. Wolfe from Nitro High School received this honor along with a $25,000 award from the foundation.

Mr. Wolfe transitioned to education after spending three years as an engineer. He integrates his passion for design into his teaching by incorporating engineering and math lessons into his classroom activities.

By receiving this award, Wolfe becomes part of a national network of over 3,000 Milken Educators, which has been established over nearly four decades as the leading teacher-recognition program in the country. The Milken Educator Awards are often referred to as the "Oscars of Teaching," aiming to inspire educators and communities to "Celebrate, Elevate and Activate" the K-12 teaching profession while encouraging talented individuals to consider teaching as a career path.
