The West Virginia School Building Authority (SBA) has granted Kanawha County Schools more than $20 million for the construction of a new elementary school. The funds were approved on Tuesday morning and will be allocated to a project on the eastern end of Kanawha County.
Tom Williams, superintendent of Kanawha County Schools, expressed satisfaction with the decision: “We are very pleased the SBA has awarded us the requested funding for the construction of this new facility.” He added that the students would benefit from "a state-of-the-art facility that will also meet the needs of the community and provide necessary wrap-around services."
The planning phase for this project is expected to commence either late this year or early next year. Once completed, it will serve as a new home for students currently attending Malden, Belle, Mary Ingles, and Midland Trail Elementary Schools.
The construction process is anticipated to span several years. Updates on progress will be provided through the Kanawha County Schools website and social media platforms.
