Capito secures DOJ grant for law enforcement resources in Poca

U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito has announced a Congressionally Directed Spending award from the U.S. Department of Justice for the Town of Poca, West Virginia. The funds will be allocated to purchase emergency equipment for law enforcement officers.

Senator Capito stated, "I worked closely with leaders in Poca to secure this funding to equip the city’s law enforcement officers with the best possible tools to respond to an emergency event." She emphasized that this award will ensure officers are equipped to handle emergencies and save lives. As a member of the Senate Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee, she pledged continued collaboration with local partners for community safety.

The Town of Poca expressed gratitude through Chief of Police and Mayor William Jones: “The Town of Poca would like to thank Senator Shelley Moore Capito’s Office in helping the town in receiving the Department of Justice Grant. The Town will be using funds to help upgrade its equipment and acquire training to prepare the town’s Police Department for an active shooter / terror activity at our schools and community and keep it safe."

The $54,000 award secured by Senator Capito will be used for tactical and ballistic equipment procurement as well as training. This initiative aims to enhance protection capabilities within Poca's jurisdiction, focusing on school safety and overall community security.
