U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito has announced her committee assignments for the 119th Congress. She will continue her roles on four U.S. Senate committees: Appropriations; Environment and Public Works, where she will now serve as Chairman; Commerce, Science, and Transportation; and Rules and Administration.
Senator Capito expressed enthusiasm about her continued service on these committees, stating, "I am excited to continue serving on these four committees, which will position me well to advance policies and priorities important to West Virginians." She highlighted her achievements in energy policy reforms, broadband deployment, opioid crisis management, and securing funding for programs in West Virginia through her role on the Appropriations Committee.
Capito also noted the political context of this new Congress with Republican majorities in both chambers and President Trump's return to the White House. "As we begin this new Congress with Republican majorities in both the Senate and House and as President Trump returns to the White House," she said, "I look forward to working with my colleagues to deliver on the solutions Americans voted for in this last election so we can get our country back on track."
Additionally, Senator Capito will serve as Chairman of the Republican Policy Committee, marking her as the fourth-highest ranking member in Senate GOP Leadership.
