U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito has confirmed her support for Scott Turner as the new Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). After casting her vote, Senator Capito released a statement emphasizing Turner's capabilities in economic development.
"I have seen firsthand the skills Scott Turner brings to the table when it comes to targeted economic development initiatives," said Senator Capito. "He has a wealth of knowledge, experience, and will respond to the individual challenges that each unique community faces in West Virginia and across America. I was proud to vote to confirm Scott to this position and look forward to working with him and the Trump administration to make sure the needs of West Virginia and rural America are met."
Senator Capito had previously met with Turner in January to discuss his nomination and explore his vision for leading HUD. Their discussions included addressing responsiveness issues faced by West Virginians.
In 2019, Turner visited Charleston, West Virginia, at Senator Capito's invitation for roundtable discussions on economic development.
