U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito has announced her support for Robert Kennedy Jr.'s confirmation as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Capito, who serves as Chairman of the Senate Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee, shared her thoughts following the vote.
“Coming from a state whose residents live with the impact of chronic diseases more than most, I agree with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. that we need to Make America Healthy Again," stated Senator Capito. She emphasized her commitment to working closely with Secretary Kennedy to ensure that West Virginia's health priorities are addressed.
Capito highlighted Kennedy's understanding of rural America's health care challenges and his approach to integrating new ideas with proven strategies. "I look forward to working with him to combat the drug crisis in West Virginia and across the country, make the foods we are eating healthier, improve the transparency of our health care systems, and deliver better health care to more Americans,” she added.
The senator had previously met with Kennedy in December 2024 to discuss his nomination and gain insight into his vision for leading HHS.
