U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, representing West Virginia and serving as Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, outlined her priorities in an op-ed published in the Charleston Gazette-Mail and the Wheeling Intelligencer. As she assumes leadership of the EPW Committee for the 119th Congress, Capito emphasized initiatives that align with West Virginia's interests.

"Now, as Chairman of the EPW Committee, I will continue to make certain West Virginia always has a seat at the table. That has been a central motivation of mine since I first came to Congress," Capito stated.

Capito's focus includes removing obstacles that hinder economic development opportunities in West Virginia, such as manufacturing and infrastructure projects that create jobs. She highlighted investments in roads and bridges, water infrastructure improvements, and completing projects like Corridor H. "This means restructuring the regulations that stopped necessary investments to develop pipelines and build out reliable energy and electric infrastructure," she added.

Capito also expressed her commitment to advancing American energy by addressing barriers under environmental laws. She plans to collaborate with President Trump to reverse regulations from the previous administration which she claims have harmed communities.

Additionally, Capito aims to modernize transportation and water infrastructure programs whose authorization expires in 2026. Reauthorizing these programs is a priority for her as EPW Committee Chairman.

The committee also plays a role in approving nominees for federal agencies under President Trump's administration. Capito intends to expedite confirmations within her committee's jurisdiction.

Reflecting on her dedication to West Virginia, Capito concluded: "If you know me, you know that West Virginia is always in the front of my mind."

Senator Shelley Moore Capito serves not only as Chairman of the EPW Committee but also on other key committees including Appropriations, Commerce, and Rules Committees. She holds a significant position as Chairman of the Senate Republican Policy Committee.
