U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, who chairs the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, has cast her vote in favor of advancing two nominations within the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The committee voted 10-9 to report favorably on David Fotouhi for Deputy Administrator and Aaron Szabo for Assistant Administrator for the Office of Air and Radiation. These nominations will now proceed to the full U.S. Senate for further consideration.

Senator Capito expressed her support by stating, “Both Mr. Fotouhi and Mr. Szabo are qualified and well-equipped to fulfill the roles that they have been nominated for at the EPA.” She added confidence in their ability to steer the agency back towards its core mission while avoiding extreme regulations that could impact the reliability of the electric grid and American competitiveness.

The senator emphasized a need for nominees with experience not only in regulation but also in advising entities on compliance, describing this as an important perspective for the agency. She anticipates collaborating with both nominees to enhance American lives and protect environmental standards.
