U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, visited Morgantown and Bridgeport in West Virginia today. Her visit aimed to assess projects that are expected to enhance educational opportunities and stimulate economic growth in the region.
In Morgantown, Senator Capito marked progress on renovations at West Virginia University's (WVU) School of Dentistry. These improvements were facilitated by Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS), which she supported. The upgrades aim to meet educational needs and improve patient care offered by WVU Medicine. A significant number of dentists practicing in West Virginia have graduated from this institution.
"As West Virginia’s only dental school, WVU plays a critical role in training the next generation of dentists and expanding access to oral health care across our state," stated Senator Capito. She emphasized her pride in supporting these renovations through CDS, considering it an investment in the health of West Virginians.
Dr. Stephen Pachuta, Dean of the WVU School of Dentistry, commented on the initiative: "This renovation and modernization initiative will ensure we are able to meet the current and future needs...by transforming and improving access to oral healthcare across West Virginia."
Later in Bridgeport, Senator Capito met with Mayor Andy Lang and representatives from the Benedum Airport Authority to discuss advancements on a new terminal project at North Central West Virginia Airport. The discussions included potential impacts on aviation and tourism industries statewide.
"I was glad to have the opportunity...to discuss the exciting progress made on the new terminal at North Central West Virginia Airport," said Senator Capito. She highlighted how such investments could drive economic growth by enhancing connectivity and attracting businesses.
