More than $13 million in state funding has been distributed to food banks throughout West Virginia during the ongoing 41-day federal government shutdown. Governor Patrick Morrisey announced an additional $2 million allocation to food banks and pantries, raising the total support provided by the state to $13.1 million.

“From the beginning I’ve said we will not let our people go hungry,” said Governor Morrisey. “No matter what happens in Washington, D.C., state government must step up and solve problems.”

To aid in distribution efforts, Governor Morrisey has deployed the National Guard to help food banks with logistics and ensure emergency food resources reach communities across West Virginia.

“The best scenario for us is for the government to reopen,” the Governor continued. “We can get the cards loaded very quickly.”

Residents who need assistance or wish to coordinate food deliveries are encouraged by Governor Morrisey to call 2-1-1 for support.
