U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito and Jim Justice have issued a statement following severe flooding in Ohio and Marion counties, West Virginia. The flooding resulted from storms over the weekend, leading to multiple fatalities and missing persons.
Senator Capito expressed sympathy for those affected, stating, “Our hearts go out to the families and communities across West Virginia who are being impacted by the devastating flooding we have seen these last few days, especially those who have lost or are missing loved ones.” She commended first responders for their efforts and assured ongoing communication with local officials to provide necessary resources.
Senator Justice highlighted West Virginia’s history with flooding and extended condolences to affected families. He remarked, “Unfortunately, West Virginia is no stranger to flooding… My heart breaks for the families who are grieving and those who are still waiting to hear from their loved ones.” He praised first responders as heroes and pledged continued support for recovery efforts.
The flash flood warning in Ohio County began Saturday night with significant rainfall causing rapid flooding. Marion County also faced severe damage, particularly in Fairmont.
