The West Virginia State Police, in cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), have arrested 12 individuals for immigration violations over a two-day period in Pax, West Virginia. The arrests were made as part of the ICE 287(g) program, which allows certain state and local law enforcement officers to perform specified immigration enforcement duties.

Governor Patrick Morrisey commented on the collaboration between state police and federal authorities. “I am proud to have West Virginia’s Law Enforcement working together with ICE to enforce the nation’s immigration laws and support President Trump’s border policies,” said Governor Morrisey. “This partnership is already producing results with a dozen arrests made in just the past few days. I want to commend the WVSP for their work as we continue to support actions that protect West Virginians.”

Governor Morrisey previously announced that not only the State Police but also the West Virginia National Guard and Division of Corrections would be involved in supporting federal immigration enforcement efforts through participation in the 287(g) program. Only those law enforcement personnel who are nominated, trained, certified, and authorized are permitted to carry out these delegated functions.
