West Virginia State University announced on Apr. 20 that it will participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day by hosting a drop-off site on campus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 25.
The initiative provides an opportunity for the public to safely and anonymously dispose of unused or expired medications at local collection sites. The event is intended to prevent medication misuse and protect the environment by encouraging proper disposal practices.
The university said the collection site will be located outdoors between Wallace Hall and Hamblin Hall in Parking Lot A, making it accessible for students, faculty, staff, and community members. Accepted items include tablets, capsules, patches, solid forms of prescription medications, as well as vaping devices and cartridges with lithium batteries removed. Liquids (including those in bottles), syringes, and illegal drugs will not be accepted.
Take Back Day is part of a nationwide effort aimed at reducing the risk of prescription drug abuse and accidental poisoning by removing unneeded medications from homes.
