Kanawha County’s 40 coaches earned an average salary of $42,110 in 2022, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

This is the fifth highest average salary per county earned by coaches at West Virginia post-secondary schools during 2022.

Kanawha County is home to two post-secondary schools that paid coaches during 2022. Among them, West Virginia State University stood out with the highest average coaching salary of $53,208.

Male coaches of men's teams received $47,390 on average in Kanawha County, while female coaches in charge of women's teams earned an average of $41,505.

Research from the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management found NCAA coaches are compensated like CEOs, with top coaches earning more than $1.5 million annually.
