As the Assistant Director of Nursing and Clinical Coordinator at WVJC, Maria Schubert wears many hats. She manages and maintains WVJC Bridgeport’s clinical sites so nursing students can have hands-on learning experiences through different hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities. As WVJC launches its online Nursing programs in Martinsburg and Parkersburg, Maria will also be responsible for their clinical experiences. Maria is a liaison between WVJC and its clinical sites while completing all required documentation for the clinical sites and students. She is a resource for campus students and assists Amanda Poling, Interim Nursing Director, as needed.
“My main motivation is the students. I want them to be able to learn in an environment where they feel like they have obtained all the knowledge they can to be successful nurses. I’m very excited to play a part in helping build future nurses,” Maria says.
Previously, Maria worked as a labor and delivery nurse at Davis Health System, Mon General, and through WVU Medicine’s Staffing Solution. She also worked through Amedisys Hospice as a Case Manager. Maria obtained her associate degree in nursing from Davis and Elkins College. While working full-time, she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing from West Virginia University’s RN-BSN program. While working in labor and delivery, Maria was always passionate about staff education. Maria felt everyone could benefit if every staff member knew their job and felt confident in their roles. She feels she is finally at home at WVJC and is so happy to have the opportunity to be in a fulfilling career with flexibility and an awesome administration.
While not at work, Maria is extremely passionate about the outdoors and can always be found fishing, hunting, working on her family farm, or camping with her three dogs and her husband, Hans.
