The University of Charleston Athletic Department recognized 38 student-athletes in its twelfth class of Chi Alpha Sigma inductees on Thursday evening.

The 38 inductees represented 15 of Charleston's 19 varsity programs and were honored in a ceremony that included remarks from UC Athletic Director Dr. Bren Stevens and UC President Dr. Marty Roth.

Established in 1996, Chi Alpha Sigma is a non-profit organization that recognizes student-athletes who excel both on and off the field of competition and is the first and only academic fraternity that specifically honors four-year collegiate student-athletes for their athletic and academic successes.

In order to be inducted, student-athletes must participate in a sport at the varsity intercollegiate level, achieve junior academic standing or higher after their fifth full-time semester, and earn a cumulative grade-point average of 3.4 or higher.

University of Charleston formed its chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma in 2011.
