The West Virginia State University baseball team (10-9, 5-3 MEC) split a doubleheader with Frostburg State (11-11, 4-4 MEC) on Sunday afternoon at Cal Bailey Field. The Yellow Jackets were edged in the first game, 4-3, before winning the second game comfortably, 6-2.

Game 1: Frostburg State 4, West Virginia State 3 (Final/7)

West Virginia State went up by a run in the top of first on a sacrifice fly by Connor Fizer, 1-0.

Frostburg State took the lead in the bottom of the second with a double that scored two runs, 2-1.

In the top of the third, the Yellow Jackets tied the score with a sacrifice fly from Tyler Overaitis.

The Bobcats then regained the lead in the next half inning with an RBI-single, 3-2.

WVSU tied the score again in the top of the fifth with another sacrifice fly from Overaitis.

In the bottom of the same inning, FSU took the lead for the last time by scoring on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded, 4-3.

West Virginia State was unable to reach base in the top of the sixth or the seventh.

Game 2: West Virginia State 6, Frostburg State 2 (Final/7)

Lefty Chase Norris got the start in the second game of the afternoon and was dominant through six innings. He ended up tossing a complete game for the win and had a shutout until the final inning. He struck out six and only allowed four hits.

The Yellow Jackets piled on the runs early. Nathan Paulsen drove in two runs with a double to right center in the top of the first, 2-0. Ryan Kay then drove in another two runs with a double to the left field fence in the second inning, 4-0. Michael Stone drove in one more run with a single up the middle in the third, 5-0.

In the top of the fifth, Michael Bittinger drove in Stone from second to tack on another run, 6-0. Stone reached base with a double to left center.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Norris made his first mistake of the game. He gave up a two-run homerun to Frostburg's designated hitter, Cy Probst. Norris was not rattled, however, and struck out the next two batters to end the contest.

Ryan Kay picked up multiple hits in both games. He went 4-for-7 (.571) with a double, two runs batted in and two runs scored.
