West Virginia State's softball team dropped a 10-1 first game and a 9-6 second game against the Wheeling Cardinals on Sunday. State could only get two hits off of Wheeling pitching in game one, but got seven hits in game two.

Game one: Wheeling 10, West Virginia State 1
West Virginia State scored their only run in the first inning on a double steal by Autumn Thompson and Emma Ruth. Ruth scored, while Thompson gained second base.

Kasey Murphy was able to keep Wheeling off the scoreboard until the fourth inning of the game, when they scored four runs on a throwing error and a bases loaded triple.

Wheeling ended the game with a six run fifth inning.

Autumn Hall got a single in the second inning. Murphy singled in the third. Thompson struck out one Wheeling batter.

Game two: Wheeling 9, West Virginia State 6
In the first inning, Emma Ruth led off with a walk. A couple of batters later, Emma Pauley hit a single to bring Ruth home, 1-0. Kasey Murphy doubled to score Pauley and Addi Dillow, 3-0. Chelsea Thompson scored Murphy on an RBI single, and Chelsea Thompson came home on an error by the third baseman, 5-0.

Wheeling got four of those runs back in the bottom of the second with a single, a double, and a bases-clearing error. 

Dillow came home in the third inning to re-extend the lead, 6-4.

Wheeling then scored one run in the third and fourth innings, two in the fifth, and one more in the sixth and kept the Yellow Jackets scoreless for the rest of the game, completing the sweep.

Dillow went 2-for-4 with two runs. Chelsea Thompson went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run.
