On Tuesday, March 28, 2023, just before 3:00 a.m., Kanawha County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a disturbance on Carla Drive in Sissonville. Metro 911 operators received reports from a female who was trapped inside the residence, stating that her spouse was intoxicated with a firearm, and preventing her from leaving. During the 911 call dispatchers overheard a male yelling in the background before hearing multiple gun shots being fired.
Kanawha County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on scene and located the suspect, 35-year-old Odis Olish of Sissonville, inside the home. Mr. Olish was uncooperative with deputies and became combative as they attempted to apprehend him. Deputies quickly gained control of Mr. Olish and placed him under arrest. Deputies found the residence to be in complete disarray with the bedroom door torn down where the victim had been hiding and found at least ten spent (fired) casings from a 9mm handgun.
The female victim told deputies that Mr. Olish was drinking at the Raw Bar in Sissonville prior to the incident and intoxication seemed to be the motivator in the altercation. Deputies learned that during the disturbance, Mr. Olish not only gained access to the 9mm handgun inside the residence but had attempted to retrieve additional firearms from a gun safe; however, he was unsuccessful.
Mr. Olish was placed under arrest for one felony count of Wanton Endangerment with a Firearm, WV §61-7-12 and one felony count of Kidnapping, WV §61-2-14A. Additional charges may be filed at a later time. Mr. Olish is currently being held at South Central Regional Jail on a $250,000.00 cash bond. As always, Mr. Olish is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
No one was injured in this incident.
