U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito has announced that the City of Ripley, W.Va. will receive funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to upgrade its wastewater treatment system. This award, secured through a Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) request made by Senator Capito, aims to improve the wastewater system in Ripley by upgrading treatment plants and eliminating overflows.
"I am glad to see these funds going to Ripley to help improve its wastewater treatment infrastructure and assist in efforts to meet higher environmental standards," said Senator Capito. "I have been working with Ripley for a long time to deliver resources for wastewater improvement that will allow the city to better serve its residents. I am proud to use my positions on the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee and the Senate Appropriations Committee to help secure this award through the CDS process."
The $3,000,000 EPA CDS award will be used to upgrade the wastewater treatment system in Ripley. The funds will be utilized to eliminate unpermitted overflows in the sewer system and make improvements to the Ripley and Evans Treatment Plants. These upgrades will ensure that the discharged effluent complies with National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits.
