U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito has announced a funding award from the U.S. Department of Transportation for West Virginia International Yeager Airport. The grant, facilitated by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), will aid in reconstructing and rehabilitating the airport's passenger terminal.
Senator Capito emphasized the importance of this upgrade, noting that "CRW’s terminal is from the 1940s and is long overdue for a major upgrade." She highlighted her efforts in negotiating the IIJA to support smaller and rural airports across West Virginia and beyond. "We are now seeing the results with funding like this headed to West Virginia to support significant passenger growth at Yeager Airport," she stated.
Dominique Ranieri, Airport Director and CEO of West Virginia International Yeager Airport, expressed gratitude for Senator Capito's efforts. Ranieri remarked, “Thanks to this significant investment, we are on the path to fully transforming the passenger experience at CRW.” The project aims not only to modernize facilities but also to maintain CRW as a competitive regional asset.
The awarded $8 million IIJA Airport Terminal Program grant will enhance passenger amenities, expand security checkpoints, and comply with Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.
