U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito visited Kanawha County today, focusing on healthcare and economic development initiatives. As the Ranking Member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS), she engaged with local leaders at several events.

Senator Capito participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new West Virginia University (WVU) Medicine Thomas Orthopedic Hospital. The facility offers a range of services including surgical units, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and physician offices specializing in orthopedics, spine, and nerve care.

"Since the partnership between Thomas Health, WVU Health System, and Saint Francis Hospital, we have seen tremendous growth," stated Senator Capito. "The addition of this new orthopedic hospital is an example of that growth." She expressed confidence that the new facility would enhance healthcare services across West Virginia.

Greg Rosencrance, M.D., president and CEO of Thomas Hospitals, echoed these sentiments: "We are thrilled to open the doors to our new state-of-the-art orthopedic Hospital serving all of southern West Virginia and the Region."

Later in the day, Senator Capito visited the West Virginia Hospital Association’s (WVHA) LEAD pilot program aimed at training new healthcare managers. This initiative seeks to develop future leaders within health systems.

"Managers have an important position in the overall success of any organization," remarked Senator Capito. She highlighted how skills gained through such programs could improve efficiency within health systems and aid in staff retention.

Photos from today's events captured Senator Capito's involvement at both venues in Charleston.
