U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito has announced a Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) award for St. Albans, West Virginia. The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Justice's Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) office and will be used to upgrade camera technologies and public notification equipment for local law enforcement.

Senator Capito emphasized her collaboration with St. Albans leaders in securing this funding, stating, "I worked closely with leaders in St. Albans to secure this funding to equip the city’s law enforcement officers with the best possible tools to protect and serve residents." She added that the award ensures police officers have the necessary tools to address crimes while adhering to ethical standards.

Scott James, Mayor of St. Albans, expressed gratitude for Senator Capito's efforts: “Senator Capito’s leadership and determination with respect to federal Appropriations have made a profound impact in the City of St. Albans and many other communities across West Virginia." He highlighted past achievements such as constructing a new ambulance station and stormwater system improvements.

The $150,000 DOJ CDS award was secured solely by Senator Capito for upgrading various camera technologies, including body-worn cameras, in-car cameras, mobile traffic cameras, and an emergency messaging marquee. This initiative aims to enhance transparency of law enforcement activities and improve crime prevention through video evidence in areas with increased crime or motor vehicle accidents.
