U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, a member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, participated in a committee markup session to advance Howard Lutnick's nomination for Secretary of Commerce. The session also saw progress on several legislative items, including the Rural Broadband Protection Act (RBPA), which was authored by Senator Capito. This legislation aims to enhance the vetting and verification process for internet service providers seeking participation in the Federal Communications Commission's high-cost programs.
Senator Capito supported all legislation discussed during the markup. Among these were bills she cosponsored: the Insure Cybersecurity Act, Hotel Fees Transparency Act, AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act, and She DRIVES Act.
The Lutnick nomination and all Capito-backed legislation are now set to be considered by the full Senate.
