The Charleston Land Reuse Agency (CLRA) will host its third Developers’ Roundtable at the North Charleston Community Center on Tuesday, October 25 at 6 p.m. The session will include a short presentation about the work of the CLRA, review and discussion of available redevelopment properties, and the qualified homebuyer pipeline.
“It is important for us to hear from our community of developers, real estate professionals, builders, and investors so that we may better understand what they see as challenges – and opportunities for our City,” said Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin. “This ongoing, open dialogue will help guide the CLRA as they work through future decisions and strategies.”
“We received fantastic feedback from the development community at our Roundtable event last year and have worked diligently since then to identify and acquire abandoned and tax delinquent properties,” said Dan Vriendt, Planning Director for the City of Charleston and ex-officio CLRA Board member. “The work takes time, but we are beginning to see results and now have properties that are ready to move toward redevelopment.”
The Developers’ Roundtable is an opportunity for continued dialogue on strategies that could help create opportunities for new construction and redevelopment of existing, vacant structures. Developers, real estate professionals, builders, and investors are encouraged to attend, but most importantly, share their perspectives on opportunities and barriers to investment and improvement in Charleston.
“The Mayor’s Office of Economic and Community Development (MOECD) has made improvements to our housing programs, specifically our First-time Homebuyer Program,” said Andy Backus, Director of MOECD and ex-officio CLRA Board member. “With the help of generous down payment assistance, we are building a pipeline of qualified and eager buyers that are ready to find their new home right here in the City of Charleston. Combined with available redevelopment properties we want this ready pool of homebuyers to help create opportunities for new, safe, and affordable housing.”
Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP to John Butterworth at john.butterworth@cityofcharleston.org or 304.550.9567.
