U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito visited Berkeley County, West Virginia, participating in two significant events aimed at community empowerment and infrastructure development.

At Eagle School Intermediate in Martinsburg, Senator Capito hosted a "West Virginia Girls Rise Up" event. This initiative, launched by the senator in 2015, aims to build confidence among young women in West Virginia and empower them as future leaders. The program emphasizes education, fitness, and self-confidence. “It was great to meet the fifth-grade students at Eagle School Intermediate and inspire them to set goals for the future and achieve their dreams," Senator Capito stated.

The school expressed its appreciation for the event: “Eagle School Intermediate is delighted that our students engaged in this unique opportunity with Senator Shelley Moore Capito today.”

Later in Bunker Hill, Senator Capito participated in a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Bunker Hill Water Treatment Plant. She has been instrumental in securing funding through a Congressionally Directed Spending award to support this project. The plant aims to expand clean drinking water capacity to accommodate Berkeley County's growing population. “As we see the amazing growth here in Berkeley County, it is critical that we have the infrastructure needed to reinforce it,” she said.

Jim Ouellet of the Berkeley County Public Service Water District praised Senator Capito's efforts: “The Water District is grateful to Senator Capito for her support of the objectives of Berkeley County.”

Photos from these events captured moments from both initiatives led by Senator Capito on October 17, 2024.
