Charleston Wins Third Consecutive Road Game in Philippi, WV

The Golden Eagles traveled for their last away game in a three-game away stretch to start the new year. They would take on the Battlers of Alderson Broaddus University for an MEC men's basketball matchup.

The Basics
Location: Rex Pyles Arena
Score: UC 69, AB 55
Records: UC (10-5, 7-2 MEC), AB (4-9, 3-6 MEC)

How it Happened
Despite the quick Alderson Broaddus lead with a Fraser Larocque shot from beyond the arc, Charleston would answer with a three of their own; this one coming from Deng Nhial, giving them the 5-3 lead with 16:56 remaining in the half. Charleston played tremendously well on defense, only allowing the Battlers to shoot 39% from the field (9-23). On the other end, the Golden Eagles hot an impressive 48% (14-29), converting on nearly half of the shots they put up. Just before the break, Tyler Eberhart's layup would stretch the lead to the largest of the half at seven points. CJ Meredith's mid-range jumper would give Charleston a 30-23 lead heading into the locker room for the halftime break.

Alderson Broaddus would come out of the break fast and close the margin to just two points. Charleston would not stand for the small margin and extended their lead with a 14-2 run that took just over three minutes to take a 46-32 lead over the Battlers. The Golden Eagles would continue their dominant play for quite some time, while the Battlers were only able to find their points from the free throw line. Meredith's dunk with 8:50 remaining in the game would extend the Golden Eagles' lead to 19 points with a 58-39 lead over the Battlers. Alderson Broaddus found a pair of triples in the closing stages, but the last-minute effort wouldn't be enough to overcome Charleston's 53% shooting percentage (18-34) in the second half. The Golden Eagles would take the 69-55 victory in their third consecutive road game to move their winning streak to six games.
