Last week, U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito and Reverend Raphael Warnock passed a bipartisan resolution known as the Drive Safer Sunday Resolution. This legislation aims to encourage Americans to exercise increased caution during their holiday travels, particularly on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, which has been designated as "Drive Safer Sunday."

Senator Capito highlighted the significance of this day, stating, “The Sunday after Thanksgiving is one of the busiest—if not the busiest—travel day in our country.” She emphasized that driving carefully is crucial as safety remains her top transportation priority.

Senator Warnock added his perspective by noting that Thanksgiving should be a time for family gatherings and safe celebrations. He stated, “Community safety on our streets is a group effort, which is why I urge Georgians and all Americans to exercise an increased effort for safe travel amid the busy holiday season.”

Susan and Steve Owings, co-founders of Road Safe America and board members for the Institute for Safer Trucking, expressed their support for the resolution. They recounted a personal tragedy involving their son Cullum, who was killed in a traffic accident on December 1, 2002. The Owings believe that current safety technology could have prevented such incidents and hope that Drive Safer Sunday will raise awareness about road safety.
