The Sun Belt Cross Country Championships have been moved to Friday, October 28 due to inclement weather, as announced by the league office.
The Marshall University cross country teams compete in the Sun Belt Championships this Friday in Foley, Alabama. The women's 5k championship race will be at 5:02 p.m. ET (4:02 CT). The men's 8k championship race will follow at 6:00 p.m. ET (5:00 CT).
"The kids are ready for anything," Marshall head coach Caleb Bowen said. "The conditions don't really matter to them. They will come into the race as prepared and as mentally tough as possible. If there is one thing I hopefully taught these athletes, it is to be gritty and ready for anything."
All-Conference will be determined by the top 15 finishers in each race, split between First, Second, and Third Team All-Conference.
"I'm really excited for both the men and women," Bowen said. "The women, obviously we're really excited for Abby Herring, hopefully she will contend in that top pack. We would love to see her win, but we definitely expect her to be up in the front. Our two through five have been solid all year, typically it has been our freshmen, Asha Bora and Hannah Wyler at four and five, and six and seven have been really good as well, I am not worried about our depth this year."
Marshall senior Abby Herring is the only two-time All-Conference award winner in women's program history. The Parkersburg native finished 9th at the C-USA Championships in 2021, and 14th in 2020.
Across the three prior conferences the Thundering Herd women's cross country program has been a part of (SoCon, MAC, C-USA), the team's 1987 runner-up finish remains the highest in program history.
"The men's side has three guys who can be in the Top-15 All-Conference, I think it will be a good day for them. Our 1-5 have been very good the past two meets, the distance between our one and five is the closest it has been in a long time, so that is going to help us out this weekend."
Jacob Birurakis was the last All-Conference Honoree on the men's side in 2020. The men's program won the SoCon Championship in 1977.
Seven men and eight women will travel to the meet and are scheduled to compete. They are:
Men:
Brett Armbruster
Kent Bee
Jacob Birurakis
Kazuma Bowring
Matthew Schenenberg
Evan White
Branden Wood
Women:

The defending champions on both the women's and men's side are Arkansas State.
