WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a leader on the Senate Appropriations Committee, has expressed her concerns about the national security and border package in a recent statement. Senator Capito stated, "The current situation at our southern border is chaos. I've seen it firsthand, and I hear about it from West Virginians back home consistently. Make no mistake: this catastrophe is entirely of President Biden's making. President Biden has the power to get our border under control by simply following the laws that are already in place."
Senator Capito acknowledged the efforts of Senator Lankford and others in crafting the border portion of the national security supplemental. However, she mentioned that the overwhelming feedback she received from West Virginians who expressed their concerns has influenced her decision not to advance this bill. Although she decided not to vote for the bill, Senator Capito emphasized that the need to secure the border and address national security interests remains a priority.
In a press conference held yesterday by the Senate Republican Conference leadership team, Senator Capito highlighted President Biden's mishandling of the southern border. She shared her observations and experiences, shedding light on the chaos and urging the President to enforce the existing laws in order to regain control.
As the debate around the national security and border package continues, Senator Capito's statement reflects the concerns raised by West Virginians regarding the situation at the southern border. While recognizing the efforts made by some members of Congress, the Senator emphasizes the importance of addressing the border crisis and ensuring national security interests are met. The focus remains on finding effective solutions to secure the border and protect the nation.
