U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia has recently co-sponsored the bipartisan Hotel Fees Transparency Act, aiming to increase transparency for consumers in the lodging industry. The legislation, originally introduced by U.S. Senators Jerry Moran and Amy Klobuchar, seeks to ensure that the final price customers pay for booking a hotel room or short-term rental is clearly displayed upfront.

Capito expressed her support for the bill, stating, “The price a customer sees is the price they should pay. I was proud to co-sponsor the bipartisan Hotel Fees Transparency Act because it will help West Virginians plan trips with less confusion." She also highlighted the benefits for out-of-state visitors, emphasizing the importance of transparent pricing in making financial decisions.

Chip Rogers, President & CEO of the American Hotel and Lodging Association, commended the bill, stating, “The Hotel Fees Transparency Act is an important bill that will create a single standard for mandatory fee display across the entire lodging ecosystem." He emphasized the need for a more transparent booking process and praised the efforts of Senators Klobuchar, Moran, and Capito in addressing this issue.

Richie Heath, Executive Director of the WV Hospitality & Travel Association, expressed gratitude for Senator Capito's advocacy for West Virginia's tourism industry. Heath noted, “Senator Capito continues to champion the issues that impact our hospitality and tourism businesses back home," and highlighted the importance of the Hotel Fees Transparency Act in providing a level playing field for lodging establishments.

The Hotel Fees Transparency Act has gained support from various industry stakeholders and is seen as a crucial step towards enhancing transparency and accountability in the lodging sector.
