U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) has been appointed to the United States Semiquincentennial Commission, as announced by America250, the official entity charged with planning the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Expressing her gratitude for the appointment, Senator Capito stated, “I am honored to join the United States Semiquincentennial Commission. This appointment offers an opportunity to partner with organizations at the state and local level to include the efforts being planned in West Virginia, and work to celebrate our country.”
In recognition of Senator Capito's background as an educator and public servant, Rosie Rios, America250 Chair, remarked, “Senator Capito brings a wealth of experience to America250, and as a Commissioner, we are certain that she will bring her experience as an educator and her time as a public servant to bear for this effort.”
The U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission, established by Congress in 2016, comprises individuals appointed from various sectors to plan and orchestrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. America250 continues its preparations for the Semiquincentennial with various activities, including the recent launch of America’s Invitation, a national public engagement campaign, and the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party.
The commission's goal is to ensure that the celebrations honor the nation's shared history and inspire a unified, hopeful vision for all Americans. Senator Capito's insight and leadership are expected to play a crucial role in achieving this objective.
