MOOREFIELD, W.Va. – Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS), traveled to Moorefield, W.Va., to participate in the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Hardy County Health Department.

During the event, Senator Capito expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, "Hardy County is a bright spot for our state and is one of our counties that continues to grow in population. This soon-to-be new health department is the culmination of collaboration across the federal, state, and local levels, and will help serve the health, food service, and educational needs of those in this community. I was proud to play a role in making this project possible, and I look forward to the positive impact that it will make right here in Hardy County.”

Mallie Combs, Executive Director of the Hardy County Rural Development Authority, also shared her appreciation for Senator Capito's support, saying, “It has been a pleasure to work with Senator Capito over the years. She has been very supportive and understands the needs of the communities, and continuously works to meet those needs for West Virginia communities. Hardy County thanks the Senator for being here today and her continued support.”

In May of 2023, Senator Capito secured a $474,000 loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Grant Program to help fund the construction of the new health facility in Moorefield, W.Va.
