CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, released a statement today regarding the Mountain Valley Pipeline becoming fully operational.

“At long last, I am thrilled that the Mountain Valley Pipeline is up and running, marking a significant win for West Virginia and American energy as a whole. After receiving all the necessary permits and approvals from both Republican and Democrat administrations, overcoming needless delays by courts and climate activists, this critical project is now in service and can begin to deliver needed energy to markets up and down the Atlantic coast. This entire process took a lot of perseverance, and I’m glad we fought every step of the way to help the Mountain Valley Pipeline come to fruition, which will benefit workers and consumers for years to come.”

Senator Capito has consistently led efforts in Congress to expedite permitting of the Mountain Valley Pipeline. Her amendment to the Democrats’ Inflation Act in August 2022 was supported by every Republican senator. She also included provisions related to the pipeline in comprehensive permitting reform legislation introduced in September 2022 and in the RESTART Act introduced in May 2023.

In May 2023, Senator Capito, along with members of the West Virginia congressional delegation, helped include a provision to expedite completion of the Mountain Valley Pipeline in the bipartisan Fiscal Responsibility Act, which was signed into law in June.
