WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), vice chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, delivered remarks on the Senate floor addressing what she described as failures of the Biden administration over the past three and a half years.

Senator Capito’s floor remarks included criticisms of President Biden's economic policies, immigration management, and international strategies.

“Mr/Madame President,” Capito began, “I rise to remind the American people that from the day he took office, President Biden and his administration leaves much to be desired.”

Capito argued that Biden's "tax-and-spend agenda" has negatively impacted Americans financially. She specifically cited the Inflation Reduction Act, stating it had stifled economic growth rather than curbing inflation.

“Though President Biden talks about the middle class, he has failed to deliver for them,” she said. “Instead, we have dealt with continuous impacts of an economy that isn’t working."

Capito pointed to rising costs for everyday goods and services as evidence of economic mismanagement under Biden’s leadership. “The cost of a cookout is up five percent from one year ago," she noted.

On immigration, Capito criticized what she termed as Biden’s failure to enforce existing laws and manage border security effectively. “President Biden has allowed over 10,000,000 illegal border crossings throughout his tenure,” she claimed.

She also highlighted concerns regarding national security due to perceived lapses in border control: “It has also left the door wide open for individuals on the terror watch-list to enter our country.”

Internationally, Capito accused President Biden of demonstrating weakness through actions such as the withdrawal from Afghanistan and handling nuclear negotiations with Iran. “President Biden has proven to be a president of weakness,” she asserted.

Concluding her remarks, Capito expressed her belief that Senate Republicans are committed to offering solutions. "My Republican colleagues and I are not here just to spectate and throw stones; we have ideas," she stated.

With this speech, Senator Capito underscored her party’s ongoing opposition to many facets of President Biden’s administration while advocating for policy changes aligned with Republican priorities.
